Express Yourself
There is a lot I consider when making my art. Sure, composing the drawing, figuring out the pallete and executing the painting are the basics but the biggest consideration is the “why”. Why paint this painting in the first place? What is it about the image or feeling or process do I want to capture or explore? What can I capture on canvas that can pique the curiosity of a viewer and capture their valuable attention? How can I express myself or express what the subject matter wants to say?
Having a background in Graphic Design, my work uses the disciplines I learned long ago from my collegiate studies to compose impactful images. From portraits to abstracts, the arrangement of shapes, the use of line and the application of color theory are paramount in my work. Pushing these fundamentals to solve, express and emote my subject matter is the purpose and passion in my artistic practice.
Subject matter varies for me. From the freeing expression of Abstract images where materials and shapes express a feeling or place from my soul, to capturing a relatable moment of beauty in a landscape or portrait. Again, always approaching my work with my “why”; my reason I need to create the painting and what I need to express with the work.
I hope when you look at my work, you find your “why” for giving a piece a look. Hopefully one of my paintings expresses an emotion or moment of beauty you can remember and/or relate to. Let’s celebrate the beauty of expression together. Express yourself!
